Yerry Mina erzielte seinen zweiten Treffer bei der FIFA Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft Russland 2018™ und sorgte damit in der Samara-Arena für den 1:0-Sieg Kolumbiens gegen Senegal. Damit schließen die Kolumbianer die Gruppenphase als Tabellenführer der Gruppe H ab.
Im zweiten Gruppenspiel setzte sich Polen knapp mit 1:0 gegen Japan durch. Damit hatten sowohl Senegal als auch Japan vier Punkte auf dem Konto. Am Ende waren die Japaner das erste Team in der Geschichte der WM, das aufgrund der Fairplay-Regel in die K.-o.-Runde einzog.
Die Partie gestaltete sich über die gesamte Spielzeit hinweg sehr ausgeglichen mit wenigen Torchancen auf beiden Seiten. Der entscheidende Moment kam nach einem Eckball im zweiten Durchgang, als Yerry Mina, der hoch aufgeschossene Innenverteidiger der "Cafeteros", höher sprang als seine Bewacher und per Kopf den Siegtreffer erzielte.
