ZUSAMMENFASSUNG DES TAGES – Am ersten Spieltag der FIFA U-20-Frauen-Weltmeisterschaft Frankreich 2018 sahen wir zwei historische Siege. Zum einen setzte sich Mexiko zum ersten Mal gegen Brasilien durch, zum anderen konnten die Debütantinnen aus den Niederlanden gleich zum Auftakt punkten. Außerdem gab es mit der Niederlage des amtierenden Weltmeisters DVR Korea eine faustdicke Überraschung. Die Gastgeberinnen, Zweiter bei der letzten Turnierauflage, untermauerten derweil ihre Titelaspirationen vor heimischem Publikum.

Der Auftakt dieser WM war furios. In der sechsten Minute der ersten Partie des Turniers stand es zwischen Mexiko und Brasilien nach den Treffern von Katty Martínez und Kerolin bereits 1:1. Die Gastgeberinnen waren nicht weniger effektiv. Emelyne Laurent eröffnete – ebenfalls in der sechsten Spielminute – den Torreigen der "Bleues" gegen Ghana.
Ende der Positivserie des Weltmeisters
Wir schrieben den 24. August 2014. An diesem Tag unterlag die DVR Korea im Spiel um Platz drei gegen Frankreich. Seither ging bei einer U-20-Frauen-WM keine einzige Partie mehr verloren. Tatsächlich gewannen die Nordkoreanerinnen die Auflage von 2016 mit einer perfekten Ausbeute. Doch England sorgte hier für eine faustdicke Überraschung, und nun wird die DVR Korea sich ordentlich ins Zeug legen müssen, wenn die "Mission Titelverteidigung" noch gelingen soll.

Die Niederlande avancierten am Sonntag zum 34. Land, das bei diesem Turnier dabei ist, und das Debüt hätte nicht besser verlaufen können. "Oranje" setzte sich mit zwei Toren, die in die Fussballgeschichte der Niederlande eingehen, mit 2:1 gegen Neuseeland durch. Torschützinnen waren Fenna Kalma und Eva van Deursen.
