ZUSAMMENFASSUNG DES TAGES – Nach dem letzten Spieltag der Gruppen C und D sind Spanien, Nigeria und Japan für das Viertelfinale qualifiziert. Allerdings hatten nur die "Nadeshiko" einen entspannten Nachmittag, denn heute war der Tag der Aufholjagden. Die spektakulärste lieferten die Afrikanerinnen, die das rettende Tor gegen die VR China in letzter Sekunde erzielten.
Die USA sind ausgeschieden, ließen die "Rojita" jedoch bis zum Schlusspfiff zittern. Dabei hatte die Sache für die Spanierinnen nach einer 2:0-Führung zur Halbzeit sehr vielversprechend ausgesehen. Deutschland hatte das Ticket für das Viertelfinale bereits vor der Partie gegen Haiti in der Tasche, doch das Team aus der Karibik war nur einen Treffer von einer faustdicken Überraschung entfernt.

Japan – wiederkehrender Alptraum für Paraguay
Japan und Paraguay standen sich vor zwei Jahren bereits in der Gruppenphase der U-17-WM 2016 gegenüber. Einige Protagonistinnen, die heute in Vannes auf dem Platz standen, waren auch damals schon dabei, und die Teams trennten sich mit einem ganz ähnlichen Ergebnis, nämlich mit einem 5:0 für die Asiatinnen. Saori Takarada und Riko Ueki, die heute beide einen Hattrick verbuchen konnten, waren auch bei der U-17-WM Stammkräfte im Sturm der "Nadeshiko", und Takarada erzielte damals ebenfalls einen Treffer.
Deutschland einziges Team mit perfekter Ausbeute
Von den acht Teams, die sich für das Viertelfinale qualifizierten, kann nur eines drei Siege aus drei Spielen verbuchen, und zwar das DFB-Team. Die Deutschen hatten ihren Kasten in den beiden ersten Spielen gegen Nigeria (1:0) und die VR China (2:0) sauber gehalten, mussten im letzten Gruppenspiel gegen Haiti jedoch mehr einstecken als erwartet und kassierten zwei Gegentreffer. Nationaltrainerin Maren Meinert wird vor der Begegnung des dreimaligen Weltmeisters mit Japan sicherlich noch an einigen Details feilen wollen. Schließlich können die Japanerinnen mit einer der besten Offensiven des Turniers aufwarten.

Die USA und Nigeria brauchten in der Nachspielzeit ihrer Partien jeweils noch einen Treffer, um dem Schicksal die Wende zu geben. Doch während den Afrikanerinnen mit dem letzten Spielzug der Partie gegen die VR China (95. Minute) noch das rettende Tor gelang, konnte der dreimalige Weltmeister seine Aufholjagd gegen die "Rojita" nicht mit dem Siegtreffer krönen. Dabei hatten die Amerikanerinnen in den letzten zehn Minuten noch zwei Tore erzielt, das dritte wollte jedoch nicht mehr gelingen. Nun müssen sie sich zum ersten Mal nach der Gruppenphase verabschieden.
